S.V. Shonandra

Eduardo called in a panic, as his alternator had stopped working, it was just after Christmas, and he was on anchor in Moreton Bay. He needed electrical power, as the solar panels were not capable of charging the batteries and running the refrigeration. It seemed that there was a load disconnect whilst the engine was running, and the resultant voltage spike blew the diodes in the over 10 year old ElectroMaax Cruiser 120a Alternator – on a Ford Lehman 85hp engine.

Eduardo took the opportunity to install a new Cruiser 160a Alternator, that would deliver much more power at low RPM, saving running time and fuel. In the short term, the old V-Belt system was retained.

The Serpentine Belt kit is the next project !.

I was picked up by Eduardo on his dingy from Dunwich, on North Stradbroke island, and together with his cousin Juan, the old unit was removed, and the new unit installed. Worked perfectly first time !!

Shonandra was anchored just south of Dunwich
