Call to Action

After a series of battery failures on board my trusty steel ketch, Liahona, I diagnosed a faulty Bosch alternator, on my Perkins 4.236 Motor, that had probably been in place for over 20 years. Whilst researching for replacements, I came across ElectroMaax, a Canadian technology driven company that had the best Marine Alternators I could find. They had engineered in the key needs for reliable and efficient marine power generation, and engineered out the key failure modes. I made enquiries, but being impatient, in the interim, I ordered in an OEM alternator to replace the Bosch, but this also failed.

I found out the hard way that the old Xantrex regulator had failed, causing the other problems.

Long being an entrepreneur, with experience in business building, electronics, and technology, and cutting a long story short, I have become the first Australian dealer for ElectroMaax, and over the next few weeks, will be installing a new Cruiser Alternator and Smart regulator on Liahona.

I’m looking forward to shooting a video of the installation.

What are the benefits I’m expecting ?

  • High power output at low-fast idle RPM
  • Ability to customize and monitor charging parameters from my iPad or Axiom + chartplotter
  • Integration with my solar and wind power sources.
  • Ability to press a button to instantly boost engine power whilst charging, by reducing alternator load.
  • Confidence in the reliability of a new installation prior to some coastal and offshore cruising
